Mexico City
The Templo Mayor Museum
The wall of sculls used be located somewhere in the temple outside, at least a replica, but I did not notice it during my walk |
A massive structure, when it was finally completed. Notice the round stone in front of the right set of steps. The sacrificial victims, after having their hearts removed, were tossed down those steps to honor the dismembered goddess that was depicted on that stone. |
You can see the oldest, innermost platform in the middle, the one with the statue on, holding the vessel. Everything you see today has been razed to about the level of that inner and oldest platform. |
Two artist's depictions of the what it must have looked like, at the time the Spaniards arrived, before they demolished it. |
The sacrificial stone, real and replica
Chuckmool, the real one. |
This is huge, and I had to be on the third floor to get this shot |
Two statues from the House of Eagles. A man in an eagle suit and the God of Death
Seals of the houses of prominent Conquistadors |
An altar to Tlaloc, the God of Rain |
Kids getting to do some neat arts and crafts based on Aztec subjects |
And here, most delightfully presented, the final works of art |
